Following on from a site visit by Ride The Peak members - further planning has been carried out regards proposed works around the Black Harry Gate area.

The Project
-
To improve and create new routes in the Stoney Middleton/ Longstone Edge area for horse-riding and mountain-biking and increase opportunities for the less able, elderly and those with young families.

£29.2k funding is sought under the Derbyshire Aggregates Levy Grant Scheme.

15.25km of routes improved for horse-riders and mountain-bikers; an additional 5.8km proposed.

Works include signage, better gates/barriers, surfacing, vegetation clearance, reinstatement and drainage.

Works must be completed by Feb 2011.
Aims

Enhancing the existing bridleway network with new link routes.

Improved surfacing to enable a wider range of opportunities and different users.

Specially developed signs to give users greater confidence in the new network of routes.

Better management of recreational motor vehicles which can deter other users

Developing knowledge and respect for the routes and other users by volunteer community involvement

Enhancing the environment and reducing the impacts of quarrying
Need

Compensates local communities for impact of mineral working.

Some mineral sites are closing.

Vehicular rights are being clarified.

Links to Pedal Peak District cycling project.

Implements actions in DCC’s RoWIP and PDNPA’s Recreation Strategy.
Vision
-
There will be an improved and integrated network of routes for a variety of users. The voluntary involvement and the promotion of recreation will encourage all to enjoy this area and work together in caring for it.
- There may be potential for this project to develop in the future to include the worked out quarries and mineral workings in the area.
